2017 Connecticut State Association

Pistol Shooters at Camp Perry Ohio

This year ten of us made it out to the 2017 National Championship hosted at Camp Perry Ohio. Because of the NRA changing our schedule for the pistol phase, this was the most screwed up schedule in my 35 years of attending the National matches. The NRA shortened our matches by two days. Because of the new schedule, none of us were able to shoot any of the CMP matches, they were the pistol EIC, President 100 or the Team hard ball matches. You see the CMP had the first shot ceremony a week earlier and shot all of their matches then. The total number of pistol shooters this year was only 490 competitors over 250 competitors less from last year.

We had two Expert teams.

The shooting conditions this year was a very wet one. The first day’s matches on Monday were cancelled because it was raining cats and dogs. We weren’t able to shoot our prelim matches or the Reeve and Distinguished revolver. But on Tuesday the NRA rescheduled the two revolver matches. We had to shoot them before our individual scheduled .22 match. This made it a very long day for those of us that shot all of them. It rained in the morning so the new NRA targets that are only shot on once had to be covered with clear plastic bags so they wouldn’t disintegrate in the target holders, a new first at Perry, throw away targets.

Congratulations to our Connecticut shooters taking several awards points at the National
